This was orginally going to be Carnival Knights, with Meta Knight and Galacta Knight. Sorry, GK . There wasn't any room.
I have to say that since I’ve started drawing digitally, I haven’t been making that great of a use of Adobe’s capabilities, especially with color. So... yeah, I went all out. Seriously, this is the most colorful thing in my gallery as of now, and actually, I think it matches the Kirby universe great. I wish I did a bit more with the layout.
EDIT 11/23/12: Brighter colors; fixed up the ferris wheel; darker shading
I'm just a first time critic but I'm guessing I just need to say whatever's on my mind...
There's definitely a huge sense of contrast in this but with bright colors against a dark background, I guess it's a given. However, I feel like there's something missing. For all it being a carnival, the void of a background makes it lack the excitement. There's lot of bright color... but there just isn't that... bang.
Also, the juxtaposition of themes and colors feels rather odd. I guess... Meta knight is a bit like a flamenco which is still elegant but subtle and that doesn't make a lot of sense. Rather than noticing the dance immediately, you see the stage instead. Maybe if you made him walk on something instead of in midair or anything that would make him more noticeable without changing that cool, mysterious impression he's giving off now.
The shading is also a little inconsistent. I understand Meta knight having it but the balloons feel odd having depth while the other brightly colored things aren't. But I do understand why it would be a hard call to decide whether it should have the shading or not... meh, just something I thought I'd point out.
Anyway, Meta knight looks very fancy and that glowing crescent on his face looks SO COOL! There's something odd about him be hey, he's a ball with limbs. What can I say?
You definitely have the skill to do some badass things with this sort of thing. This, being a hit or miss first time thing. I say you did pretty well. It didn't hit the bullseye for me but it hit the target nonetheless. Keep it up!
I've been anticipating seeing this picture get colored, and now that I've seen it, I'm very impressed. The first thing that strikes my fancy is the colour, of course. You've done a magnificent job capturing the essence of a carnival. The shading is quite unique as well, especially on MK's hat and mask, although the banner could use a little more of it. The background is fitting, but I think it needs a little more flair than just black with a few dots for stars (like, maybe make the bottom the horizon, since MK's up in the air). I like the approach for the Ferris wheel where it looks like a silhouette in the background. As for the layout, I like how you have MK just up there watching everything while juggling some cards. It's a refreshing sort of look to the character! If I were to nitpick, then I would say the balloons look like a different style of shading is used which is a tad bit distracting, and if you look closely, a little of the red balloon's color bleeds into the yellow's. It's also a bit unclear what Meta's sitting on (to me anyway..), and his feet could be a bit larger. Overall, great picture, great concept, and Meta Knight looks sufficiently mysterious and badass even with the carnival outfit. ^-^ Just a note: this is my first formal critique, so I apologize if I'm a bit hard on you..
