The Return by Cozigiraffe

It’s been a long time. I’m glad to be back.

After being away for year (and after increasing amounts of inactivity prior), let me first address a few things:

  1. I am unfortunately out of practice with drawing and while I have been sharpening some technical skills here and there, I will need some time to work back up to pace. I am still using a similar drawing style as I did before my absence.
  2. All of the art I owe will be done by the end of April (I will post my schedule in the next journal). I am carrying no more deadweight with me.
  3. Prince will be completed by the end of April. The next update will include 2 chapters. I don't care if I have readers or not still around. I want to finish the story.
  4. Changed my username! Now my branding is the same across all of my art sites.

Rest of this journal is going to be on personal topics. Next journal will be completely art related including new experimental things I want to do this year. Keep a look out for that.

I am in my junior year pursuing an information systems and operations management degree.  It's all tech classes right now for me and I just finished all my midterms and internship applications.

The two biggest things keeping me off of deviantArt have been obligations to classes and organizations, and my health. As a non-artist, it's difficult for me to get practice time in with all of my workload being completely unrelated to art. Last year, I took a bit too much on my hands. I've been maxing out my credits each semester, and in addition, I was the organizer in my main organization (it's like a business fraternity in structure, but not quite the same) for all of the tutoring events in the accounting department at my school, which has several classes and multiple exams. It was definitely challenging, especially around midterms and finals to recruit volunteers, and the work I did alone has now been split into the work of 6 people... which kind of makes me exhausted looking back, but I think it's for the best for the organization. In addition, I've been unwell for a long time and had considered, sometimes still am considering, something regrettable. I'm looking to get a therapist.

Some people may have noticed that I was poking around deviantArt early this year without making an official return. I was planning on starting up again in January, but ran into issues with deviantArt over one of my credit card transactions in 2016. What had happened was that my last purchases had been in August, but later I found an extra transaction in November from an unidentified source on my credit card statement and one that didn't match with any of my personal records or email receipts, etc. My credit card company investigated it, couldn't contact the company, and gave me credit back... on the wrong transaction. So when I came back in January, I found a note telling me that I was banned from the deviantArt store and absolutely no idea what had happened. It took some digging and calling around to find that my credit card company had made the mistake and to get it fixed.

Anyway, it has been resolved. I have access to the full site again. It wasn't per say a huge deal for me to continue creating art, but it was still frustrating for the amount of uncertainty and time it took. I'm extremely appreciative of the customer service representative from deviantArt that was patient to help me look into this.

I'm looking forward to a better year and getting back to doing art. See you all in my next update.

  • How long have you been on DeviantArt?

Been here for 5 years, closing in on 6 in just one month (September 12th!).

  • What does your username mean?

Literally nothing. My poor 8th grader mind could not come up with a username. I don't mind it too much though. (I do wish I synced it up with my FFN username. Cosmicgiraffe with a dash was available. Stupid me.)

  • Describe yourself in three words.

      Honest, loyal, workaholic

  • Are you left or right handed?

      I am right handed.

  • What was your first deviation?

Unfortunately I no longer have the file anywhere on deviantArt and the computer I used to make it is virus-infected beyond saving.  To describe it in short, it was messy MS Paint drawing of Kirby sleeping on top of Meta Knight's head.

Here's a deviation from the same ugly "MS Paint era":

The Black Angel, Meta Knight by Cozigiraffe

  • What is your favourite type of art to create?

I really enjoy clay modeling. I like it because it doesn't involve a lot of hard thinking and gives my hands something to work on.

  • If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?

Acrylic paint on canvas.  It is the absolute bane of my art existence.

  • What was your first favourite?

I'm fairly certain that it's this little cutie. I've done some rearranging and a lot of older favourites are in storage by their artists.

King Meta Dedede Kirby Knight by TehBurningOrange

  • What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?

I favourite fan art the most, particularly video game fan art as I'm a part of the community; but I've made a push in the recent years to go and search for artists outside of fan art. Overall I still tend to favourite more digital art.

  • Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?

I'm going to name a few here. My hope is that you go and check out their galleries immediately.

        :iconnei-no::iconroadstef::iconviviphyd::iconnickalive::iconglaciesclover::iconowlyjules:

  • If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

I don't really have specific people, but I'd be so excited to meet anyone that I've ever had a good conversation with on deviantArt and who are into some of my favourite fandoms.

  • How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?

:iconmetaknight-fangirl13: and :iconmikan-megane: were the ones that convinced me to join deviantArt. I cannot thank these two enough for making me feel welcome here and being my first two watchers.

And to these wonderful people who have supported me for so much of my years here: thank you all for your feedback and encouragement from deviation to deviation and journal to journal. You all are always there regardless of what I draw or write about.

    :iconwhisperspirit::iconcalciferous-kelpie::iconsyani123::icondrunkplrate::iconwhitekitsuneknight::iconkitzykat::icontheultione::iconcelestia-knight::iconhalgalaz::iconsilverhammer::iconpurinblood::iconchaocream::iconfunkyk38::iconcococaramel154:

... and so many more people than I can name.

  • What are your preferred tools to create art?

I prefer using my computer and tablet. I've found it the most exciting to use because of how much more I can do with it without being afraid of making mistakes. Also it's easy for me to travel with which is a huge plus now that I go out-of-state for college.

  • What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

I don't have a real "inspirational place", but I really enjoy working in my college dorm room or in the library in my own corner. Preferably, I work in quiet places with few to no people around and with a good view outside a window.

  • What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?

My favourite memory was joining my first deviantArt group: metaknightclub and finding myself able to be with an entire community of people that liked the same fandom as I did. Most of my high school friends barely played video games and none of them knew who Kirby was. Joining that group solidified my reason for staying on deviantArt and continuing to draw fan art: to hang out with the cool people and talk about Kirby and video games. :3

Happy holidays everyone!
Just a quick holiday wish to my watchers and a short update on what I’ve been doing during my long absence:

I haven’t been posting on deviantArt, but I’ve still been drawing.  I was pushing hard on technical skills and I've been working more specifically on things like fire, glass, coloring style, etc.  I've been working for at least two months on one piece and it's looking great, but it's just not ready to post.  It's not Kirby fan art, but I still hope it will be something you guys like.

I probably won't be posting a 2014 art summary this year because of how many gaps there are in my posts.  Nothing unusual there, there's always a ton of blanks in my summaries.  TT____TT

Also, I have just finished my first semester of college!  It went well for me!  My best class ended up being this Microsoft Excel and Access class which I will be tutoring for next semester.  Microeconomics and finite were harder for me.  I took honors finite like an idiot when I would have been better off with the regular class.  Anyway, I'm done with math for now.  I'll need to take statistics sometime in the future but I get to have a little break for now.

Next semester will be kind of cool because...
No classes on Fridays for me!  3 day weekends every week! :D
I'll be stacking my work hours and studying on that day so it's not exactly like an extra free day, but... I was pretty excited that I was able to schedule my classes that way and still have a good amount of time between classes and not have to get up too early.  Gosh I have power and I love it!

I just got a Steam account and the first game I bought was Castle Crashers.  It was really refreshing!  For a long time I just lost interest in playing video games to the point where I gave myself a few hours to play and only ended up playing for ten minutes because I was bored out of my mind.  It probably helps to have friends who also play games, and none of my friends are really into it... plus new games every now and then.  The most recent game in my collection before Castle Crashers was the original Super Mario Galaxy.

As much as I'd like to play games with anyone interested, I probably won't be online much and I still refuse to spend a lot of money on games so for now, I'm not going to share my account name.

Anyway, that's all of my updates.  I'm a student.  My life is quite uneventful.

Have a great rest of this year and I'll see you all in 2015!

My midterms week is over!  I'm alive!  8D
Technically my midterms were last week, but I had other tests too to take for all of my classes.

College's been interesting.  It's very hard to describe because I have so many mixed feelings about it.  The actual living on campus, walking to my classes, doing my own laundry and choosing what I want to do have been absolutely wonderful.  I love it, and I came to this school not knowing anyone and now I have a small group of really great friends.  Also my classes have gone really well.  The partying at my school is bad though, my dorm especially.  I'm not a fan, simple as that.

Also I joined a video game development club, and basically it's a large group that meets every week and we work in small teams on different games.  My team is working on a smaller app game with very simple mechanics because none of us have a lot of experience.  I'm doing art for the game components, but the style is unlike what I use for my deviations here.  All of the pieces are plain white and flat. The other groups are working on some kind of zombie shooter, a 3D maze runner, etc.  I can't wait to see them finished by the end of the semester.

This is a photo of my desk.  For my roommate's privacy, I'm not going to show the rest of our dorm room.  Lots and lots of anime stuff hanging around my half the room.  I have vocaloid posters by my bed, and I have a tiny drawing of Meta Knight outside my door, just to establish the fangirl on this floor! XD

And lastly, a few teasers of the bigger projects that I am working on:
Teaser1 by Cozigiraffe
Teaser2 by Cozigiraffe
Teaser3 by Cozigiraffe

I still have tons of sketches and lots of smaller projects that are also close to being done.  Apologies for the excessive watermarks, since they are WIPs, I really don't wish to see them get colored/ traced over or reposted if I can help it.

Recognize the first picture's fandom?  c:
Second one's an original character of mine who will be in the same universe with Jed and Cheri.
Third one's obvious.  I hope so at least.

Hello everyone!  I'm so excited that I am now at college and am starting class tomorrow.  So... right now I have a temporary dorm and roommate for 2 weeks during the seminar and I'm sleeping on the top bunk for the year.  I might post pictures later of my permanent dorm after I move in.  I brought my Sword Kirby plush with me.  c:

Getting here was a little awful though.  I almost missed both flights because of massive delays and my suitcases got lost so I stayed at the airport from 12 to 9 AM to wait for them to arrive on the next flight.  My current dorm also didn't have an elevator, so I dragged my 40 something pound suitcases up the stairs.  Thank god it was only 3 floors.  I'm not that physically strong.

Since this is the first journal since coming back... I had a wonderful vacation.  I visited family in China, but mainly I went there for my grandfather's burial and I went to Japan for the first time.  I really think it's one of the most beautiful countries I've visited out in the wilderness.  The cities didn't impress me nearly as much as countryside and forests, if I ever come back to visit again I want to go up north.  I got quite sick from the food though (Tourist food.  Basically the same exact stuff at every meal breakfast to dinner for an entire week)

I also visited the Studio Ghibli Museum which I was really excited to see.  Totoro was the first movie I ever watched.  Kiki's Delivery Service was the second one.  It's a very small but cute little place and I think the exhibits are seasonal.  I only saw sketches/ backgrounds/ frames for a few of the movies like Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, Porco Rosso, and Arietty.  I saw the Totoro animation that they showed at the museum.  I guess it's supposed to take place after Totoro?  There was this kitten cat bus and it got really weird later because there was a cat train and a cat airship.  XD

I am also drawing once again.  I have a couple things to mention about that:
  • I have lots of art programs to choose from now.  I have access to Adobe Photoshop through school, I downloaded Gimp before I left, and I have dA Muro.  I am going to be working on different projects in all 3 programs to compare which one I like best.
  • I'm also going to be relying less on line art in the future.  I am relearning digital art and working with some speed painting methods.  I want to improve.
  • I scanned over a hundred drafts to bring with me to college to color over.  I got plenty of stuff
  • I'm applying for a job on campus, part of which I need to illustrate something for.  My focuses are there for now.
